Nigerian President Approves Budget with Yacht and Armoured Vehicle Funding!
Bola Tinubu, the president of Nigeria, recently authorized an additional £2.8 billion budget that sparked controversy. The budget contained money for him and his wife to purchase new armoured cars, which infuriated many who were already struggling with the high cost of living.
Approved on November 2nd by the parliament, this additional budget included improvements to the president’s living quarters, official automobiles for the first lady’s office, and a presidential boat. When Tinubu first submitted the budget, he included “urgent needs” including security and defence.
On the other hand, the White House defended the presidential yacht’s participation, pointing out that it is an operational navy vessel with unique security measures. However, some contend that matters such as the president’s personal dwelling improvements and other amenities need to receive greater focus and funding.
The budget has drawn criticism from some who feel it falls short of expectations and shows little compassion for ordinary Nigerians who are trying to make ends meet in the face of soaring costs and unstable economic conditions. Nigeria’s population has a difficult time getting by because of issues including double-digit inflation, a depreciating currency, shortages of foreign exchange, pervasive insecurity, and theft of crude oil.
Since taking office in May, President Tinubu has been under constant pressure from trade unions to help workers and their families. He has responded by pleading for patience as he attempts to make the required adjustments
